A TTL supporter, Mark, asked us to highlight the Warm Home Check Service from East Sussex County Council, for anyone who struggles to keep warm at home.
The Warm Home Check Service, provided by RetrofitWorks and Citizens Advice East Sussex, offers advice and support all year round to anyone who is unable to keep their home sufficiently heated. If you are on a low income or receiving benefits you may also qualify for a free home visit which includes:
- advice on getting help to pay for heating
- an assessment of your home to identify how to keep warm
- small works such as improving insulation or repairing boilers
- emergency temporary heating
Installation of replacement boilers, central heating systems or home insulation is also possible subject to eligibility and availability.

Householders can get trustworthy help from either Warmer Sussex or the Warm Home check above. They are run by the same organisation. See our guide from last month here: https://transitiontownlewes.org/eight-ways-to-cut-your-carbon/ – you need to scroll down to the energy efficiency section at the bottom. This help could include applying for a Green Home grant, also mentioned by Neil in his article this month.
