For some people it may come as no surprise that most of our electricity is generated from gas and that the majority comes by pipeline from the continent. Renewables are gaining ground but we have a long way to go.  I have mentioned it before but the National Grid live website GridWatch is fascinating.  There are a couple of other websites which take the live data and do some interpretation which might be more to your taste.  Try National Grid: Live Status and Energy Numbers.  Watch wind and solar production change with the weather .. and keep lobbying for more government assistance with renewable energy!
