Seedy Saturday

Saturday 3 February, 10am-3pm, Lewes Town Hall (Fisher Street entrance) Adults – £1; Children – free

Don’t miss this annual fixture in the Lewes calendar, with stalls, talks, music, children’s activities, cakes and refreshments – and, of course, the opportunity to swap seeds of all kinds in time for the spring planting season.

Seedy Saturday, which is organised by Common Cause, is a hubbub of activity with stalls selling plants and garden implements, seed potatoes and shallots, seeds for wildflower meadows, reconditioned tools and hand-crafted bird boxes.

The Seed Swap is at the heart of the day. You can bring seeds you have saved, as well as packets of commercial seeds you may have and no longer need, and exchange them or make a donation if you do not have any to swap.

The day is also a showcase for Lewes’ numerous and varied community growing projects, there is music, locally-made hot food, cake, tea and coffee and plenty of room to sit and chat to friends.

Talks and workshops

There’s also lots of hands-on activities. Children can plant seeds. Adults can make a willow plant support (pre-booking essential – see below) or take part in a tool care and sharpening demonstration.

This year’s talks include Hannah Fox of Marchants Hardy Plants speaking about Propagation of Perennials and Lesley Healey and Helen Sida talking about Wildlife Friendly Food Growing.
