Transition Town Lewes is hosting a talk with Chris Tomlinson, Rampion’s Development Manager, who will be sharing the challenges they’ve had to overcome in building the Rampion windfarm. It has been a huge feat of engineering, both onshore and offshore. Tons of material for the 116 turbines has had to be transported to the site and hoisted into position, and some 112 kilometers of cable laid out at sea just to connect the turbines.

The windfarm lies 13 km off the Sussex coast near Shoreham and is now nearing completion. This massive project will produce 400MW, enough to provide enough electricity to supply almost 347,000 homes a year, equivalent to around half the homes in Sussex. The project is due to be completed and fully operational in 2018.
