Rain gardens are sunken gardens specifically designed to capture and absorb surface water run-off and filter it back into the soil using selected planting. As well as helping to manage surface flooding, they filter pollution and encourage biodiversity.

A big thank-you to everyone who came and visited our rain garden stall at Seedy Saturday in Lewes Town Hall last month (pictured). Visitors suggested plenty of locations in Lewes that would benefit from a rain garden. Now our task is to assess potential sites in more detail.   Rain gardens are sunken gardens specifically designed to capture and absorb surface water run-off and filter it back into the soil using selected planting. As well as helping to manage surface flooding, they filter pollution and encourage biodiversity.   On Sunday 12 March, we’ll be taking a field trip to assess six sites proposed by residents that are prone to surface flooding. We then hope to create a shortlist of two or three sites to pursue.

Anyone who would like to join the field trip is very welcome to come along. We’re meeting at 10.30am on 12 March at Lewes Train Station and should be finished by 1pm, followed by a trip to the pub. Call Juliet on 07887 556 177 if you’d like more details.
