Help shape the South Downs Local Plan

Work has begun on reviewing the South Downs Local Plan. The Plan guides decisions on development across the South Downs National Park, including Lewes. It can influence a range of issues from action on climate change and biodiversity loss to affordable homes, and cultural heritage.

What is the Local Plan?

The  South Downs Local Plan gives a blueprint for all planning and development in the National Park. It has to be reviewed by law to make sure it’s up to date and addresses important issues including nature recovery, climate change and supporting local communities.

As the South Downs National Park Authority is the key planning body for Lewes, the Local Plan can be highly influential in how the town and surrounding areas are allowed to develop.

Give your thoughts

The South Down National Park Authority is inviting feedback on the scope of the Local Plan Review and how local people would like to involved in preparing the review. An initial, informal survey is taking place until Monday 16 September. Learn more and complete the short survey here.

13-25 years olds

There is also a Youth Survey for 13 to 25-year-olds, with the chance to enter a prize draw for a £50 gift voucher. See more here.

A formal consultation on the Local Plan Review will begin early next year.
