The first anniversary celebration of the Friday Food Market (16 July 2011) was a fantastic success. The Market Tower was full of delicious seasonal produce, the fruit, flowers and vegetables sparkling with freshness and the stalls and walls were decorated with bunting and greenery.
A happy crowd completely filled the spaces by 11.30 when the mayor, John
Stockdale congratulated everyone involved and cut the delicious
birthday cake. Sharing the cake and holding a cup of fruit punch, the
crowd joined in a toast for many more happy returns!
All the day’s customers had taken part in a free prize draw to win a
hamper brimming with market produce and a regular customer was delighted
when the mayor called out her winning number!
Several town and district councillors gave their enthusiastic support
and enjoyed meeting the customers and stallholders. Sunshine fell
brightly on the party and the atmosphere was echoed by the jubilant
passing of the Patina parade. Polly Senter
