Transition Town
Lewes’s first project in a secondary school

Project date: February 2007
Contact: John Webber

Transition Town
Lewes is working with Priory
School. On 27 February
2007 Keith Ellis of Moving Sounds ran an assembly of 240 year 10 students,
which they seemed to love. They then engaged noisily in two-by-two discussions
before breaking up into class groups. We conducted a post-it note exercise
where they suggested ways in which they could help their school reduce its
fossil fuel consumption. A week later, on 6th March, a smaller group of TTL
facilitators brought together 16 ambassadors – two from each class – to create
a mind-map of the problems facing their school and all conceivable solutions. Transition Town Lewes’s Schools group has since
formed and are meeting and supporting Priory and other local schools.
