No pensions without representation!

Support Brighton & Hove’s call for fossil fuel divestment and representation at East Sussex Pension Fund by joining Divest East Sussex, Transition Town Lewes and others at a protest and photo call when East Sussex County Council meet this month at County Hall.

Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC) has repeatedly called on the East Sussex Pension Fund to stop investing in fossil fuel producers, like Shell and BP, that are driving the climate crisis. But it has been given the brush off.

Brighton & Hove employees make up more than a quarter of the Fund’s roughly 77,000 members – and pay over a third of annual contributions to the Fund – but have no say in the Fund’s decisions, which are currently made by five East Sussex County Councillors.

Later this year a BHCC Councillor will be travelling to County Hall to propose that the Fund add two BHCC Councillors to this decision-making body, in order to ensure that the Fund finally makes a commitment to divest.

Join organisers Divest East Sussex, plus Transition Town Lewes and many other community groups at  9.15 – 9.45am on Tuesday 8 February outside County Hall in Lewes for a protest and photocall to support this proposal and send a message to East Sussex County Council: ‘No pensions without representation!
