Following the high attendance at the ‘There’s No Planet B’ day, hosted by Plastic Free Lewes at Lewes Town Hall in June, people have asked if we can hold an annual ‘sustainability fair’. So what would you like to see at such an event?

‘There’s No Planet B: A Day of Ideas to Clean Up Our Act’ was held at Lewes Town Hall on 1 June and attracted around 800 visitors. Around 25 stalls featured businesses and organisations promoting ideas and campaigns for sustainable living from local renewable energy to plastic-free products to community woodland.
Speakers covered subjects including sustainable clothing, community energy, the UN Sustainability Goals and taking a planet-friendly approach to food. Plus we held a debate where district councillors discussed what a climate emergency should look like in Lewes.
Suggestions please
With lots of requests for a similar day to be held in 2020, we’d like to know what Transition Town Lewes supporters would like to see at an annual sustainability fair. What organisations would you like us to invite? What topics would you like us to cover in talks and debates? Are there any practical workshops on sustainable living that you’d like to see? Should local political parties have more of a presence?

Hi, I teach sustainable crafts in the woods near Lewes- basket making and pottery made form wild foraged materials. Very good plastic alternatives and a way for people to connect thoughtfully and practically to the issues of sourcing materials and the cycle of production, as well as all the personal wellbeing benefits of making things with their hands.
I’d be happy to contribute to a sustainability fair in Lewes.
I feel it would be important to make such a fair significantly different to Seedy Saturday and/or at a very different time of year so as not to undermine that community event.
Yes, sounds super. Some good topics would be, a wild flower talk, a composting talk.
