Keep It In The Ground Lewes (KIIGL) is now part of the umbrella group East Sussex Divest. At present this comprises fossil free campaigns in Lewes, Hastings and Forest Row and is aiming to include Brighton and Eastbourne. The immediate aim of the campaigns is to persuade East Sussex County Council to divest their Pension Fund investments in all fossil fuels. There are numerous alternative investments such as renewables and housing available to the Fund which will not represent the risk to the fund members in the way fossil fuels will in the future. So far Hastings Borough Council, Lewes Town Council, and most recently on the 6th April Brighton and Hove City Council, have passed resolutions calling on the County Council to divest.
All three campaigns as well as individuals from Brighton are now gearing up to take part in Global Mobilisation Week. During the period 5th to 13th May fossil free campaigns all over Britain and indeed all over the world will be taking part in demonstrations of one kind or another to raise the profile of the divest campaign and to attract supporters.
With the onset of early Spring comes a host of great new Courses run by Vert Woods Ltd in Lower Vert Woods. Get close to nature and learn new skills: Spoon Whittling with the Spoon Academy’s Jill Swann on May 6th.
